Design of a New Vehicle and Pedestrian
Access Bridge Over the N1 in De Doorns
PROJECT DETAILS
The Project is located on National Route 1 Section 3 in De Doorns, and entails the construction of a road-over-road bridge with provision for non-motorised transport and a pedestrian bridge. The construction of the bridges became necessary in order to provide a direct crossing over the N1 between the existing residential areas to the north with the new residential development to the south. The bridges improved the safety of pedestrians, as no formal pedestrian crossings existed before, resulting in an unacceptable number of pedestrian related accidents.
The road bridge was constructed using pre-cast post-tensioned concrete beams. The pedestrian bridge consisted of a structural steel main span crossing the national road with cast in-situ concrete ramps.
The project was completed fulfilling all of the clients requirements.
