PROJECT DETAILS
The Moses Mabhida Stadium was one of the host stadiums for the 2010 FIFA World CupTM with a seating capacity of 76 000. The 350m long and 105m high arch holds up the roof of the stadium. The arch consists of steel hollow box sections and weighs 2 600 tons. A funicular carries visitors to a viewing platform at the top of the arch. The roof consists of a 46 000m2, Tefloncoated, glass-fibre membrane which is attached to the arch by 95mm diameter steel cables. The bowl is a framed structure consisting precast seating which spans between RC columns and raking beams. The stadium facade, consisting of aluminum fins and perforated metal sheeting, fit between the perimeter columns.
